The Breed Behind the Cross

Scottish Black is a livestock genetics programme dedicated to the Galloway × Aberdeen Angus cross — an F1 hybrid bred to combine the hardiness of the native Black Galloway with the proven carcass quality of the Aberdeen Angus. We exist for commercial beef producers, hill and upland farmers, and pedigree breeders who need cattle that thrive on marginal ground without the feed, housing, and labour overheads of continental breeds. Our animals are selected for hybrid vigour, maternal ability, and efficient conversion of forage into lean, well-marbled beef.

Based in the Cairngorms, Scottish Black is built and run by a small team of Highland stockmen and geneticists who have spent decades working native bloodlines on exposed hill ground. We record every animal, track performance across generations, and only release stock and semen that meet the standard the cross was bred for: hardy to the core, efficient by nature, and productive where it matters. Our mission is to put reliable, climate-adapted genetics back into the hands of the farmers who need them most.
